Root Canal Therapy
When a tooth is damaged internally, a root canal treatment can save the tooth from extraction. Dr. Smith and Dr. Albe have advanced training in endodontics (root canals) and will see to the success of your procedure right here in our Fort Lauderdale dental office.
A large crack, filling, or cavity can penetrate the inside of the tooth, also called the pulp. When this happens, the pulp can become infected, causing pressure within the tooth. Left untreated, the pulp will die and the tooth will need to be extracted. A root canal is a fairly routine procedure that involves cleaning out the bacteria-ridden canal and filling the tooth to prevent future infection. Oftentimes, the treated tooth will need to be topped with a crown to return strength and durability.
Dr. Smith and Dr. Albe perform most root canals in house, saving you the added trip of visiting a specialist. Only in extremely complex cases will the dentist recommend that you see an endodontist for specialized care.
