What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a series of orthodontia trays that gently but firmly shift teeth into their proper position. These trays are customized to a patient’s mouth, and work like traditional braces do to change a bite. Each set of aligners is crafted to represent the position of the teeth one step closer to the desired end result. Worn for two weeks at a time, the alignment trays place gentle pressure on teeth moving them into the new position. The entire course of treatment usually takes between eight and eighteen months. Invisalign can be used to correct:
- Crooked teeth
- Misalignment and more!
Benefits of Invisalign
The main advantage of Invisalign is that it preserves the professional image of our Fort Lauderdale patients while improving their smile. You won’t have to endure awkward and metallic smiles because the plastic used to create the Invisalign trays is nearly invisible. You can learn more about the clear advantage of this orthodontic system during your initial consultation with our doctors to determine whether Invisalign is the option for you. Other benefits of Invisalign include:
- Saved time – you’ll have fewer, shorter office visits throughout the course of treatment, and most patients complete the entire Invisalign process in just 12 months.
- No hassle – don’t change your oral hygiene routine or diet. Simply remove the Invisalign trays, enjoy your favorite foods or brush and floss teeth. Then, snap your aligners right back in place.
- Comfort – the smooth plastic means your Invisalign trays will not irritate soft tissue, so most patients find these treatments more comfortable than traditional bracket and wire braces.
Caring for Your Smile During Invisalign Treatment
To ensure success throughout your treatment, you’ll need to take special care of your smile. In addition to twice daily tooth brushing and flossing, you’ll need to make sure to keep your Invisalign trays clean by brushing them or using an antimicrobial rinse. Between meals, you should take the time to brush teeth and Invisalign trays whenever possible. If you don’t have time to brush, you should at least rinse out your mouth and clean off your Invisalign trays before replacing them. Using antimicrobial mouth rinse between meals is a great option for patients who don’t have time to brush.
